Amazing News – Ballarat Named Australia’s Best Regional Tourist Destination

Back in July, we received the fantastic news that Ballarat has been named Australia’s best regional holiday destination for 2016. It was announced as part of the Out and About with Kid’s Best of Family Travel Readers Choice Awards. Out and About with Kids is a website dedicated to providing families with holiday tips, destination information and special discounts.

The website hosts the Awards annually with finalists and winners as voted by their large readership base. A range of different categories is covered, including camping spots, holiday parks, cruises, attractions – and the best regional holiday destination. Ballarat has beat out finalists Byron Bay (NSW), Margaret River (WA), Phillip Island (VIC) and Tamworth (NSW) to take out the top spot.

Nominations were received from well-travelled families all over Australia, many of whom also shared their stories and experiences with Out and About with Kids.

The announcement couldn’t have come at a better time for Ballarat – it’s coming right off the back of Winterlude’s success, which saw thousands of visitors travel to Ballarat to celebrate the winter season.

Other Best of Family Travel Readers Choice Award winners for 2016 include Australia Zoo (best animal attraction), Fraser Island (best camping spot), Melbourne (best city for families), Bondi Beach (best beach), Sea World (best family attraction), Australia Day (best family event or activity) P&O (best family cruise line), and Fiji (best international destination for families).

We always knew how amazing our little slice of heaven is, but it’s nice to finally have that recognised by the rest of the country! Our amazing attractions, festivals and business offerings make Ballarat the perfect holiday destination, particularly for those with children.
